Elections
Wednesday, May 4, 2011 @ 10:15 AM

Okay, I know I'm not part of the election. Some of which adapted from articles. But then again, as a Singaporean. We should still be concerned over what's happening and what may eventually happen.

Like firstly, It seems that many people are choosing the oppositions this year round. But have they ever wondered why is this the case?
Is it because of them wanting a change? Or is it due to the fact that we want a voice in the parliament.

But is this really necessary? Okay first of all, I'm neither anti-opposition nor anti-PAP. Even if i was going to vote, I would not know who to choose either.
In the Aljunied case, many people are going for the oppositions but have they ever thought of the consequence? Yes, If the Opposition wins, 4 of them would be in the Parliament. But the worst thing that could ever happen is that our Minister George Yeo would have to retire. Without a doubt, part of Singapore success in terms of economic growth is due to him. He got the brains, duh~ But which minister don't ahve them? But he got the brains to think and make better relations with other countries. Or who would care about talkin gterms with a small little country like Singapore?

Many are finding flaws about the PAP. But what can they ever think of? Superficial matters like being packed like sardines in MRT or GST risen from 3% to 7%? So, no one ever thought of the good thing PAP did for us? PAP has been here for a very long time, and we should trust and believe in it. But then again, things they could do in the past dosen't mean they could do it now right. Okay, I'm sort of contradicting myself. But yup.

That so many Singaporeans behave like sheep and recite the prescribed mantra all the time really only reveals the plight of our people. Singapore is known as a First Class natin, Strong Economic Growth and High standard of living. But we are one of the lowest earners in the world in monetary terms. As compared to the high cost of living. There is an urgent signal to transmit it to the PAP that there's definietly something wrong in how they run the country. Yes, we may not want the oppostion to win, but we need to to vote for the oppostitions so that even if they lose, it's a marginal lose. This will make members of the PAP realise that a large majority of Singaporeans do not trust them anymore and yes, pressure should be given to them to run the country better.

1. The President earns $3.9 million, the PM $3.8 million, the MM and SM $3.5 million each, all other ministers between $2 to $3.2 million and all ministers of state between $1.5 to $1.8 million. These salaries do not include MP allowances, pensions and other sources of income such as Directorship, Chairmanship, Advisory, Consultancy, etc to government-linked and government-related organisations or foreign MNCs, etc. yet, Obama only earns a mere $400,000. loo at the vast difference! Adding to that, it had the cheek to raise its own salary right before a GST hike in 2003 and 2004. GST was raised again in 2007 to 7% from the original 3%. And of course, the PAP salaries have been rising accordingly as well. This is despite a very strong public opinion.

2. The media in Singapore is entirely controlled via Singapore Press Holdings, headed by a former PAP ministe, while not necessarily fabricating facts on its own ,blatantly twists them. The 1963 Singapore General Elections was the toughest and most critical the PAP ever faced. It had already suffered two by-election defeats and the number of seats it held was 26 – holding a majority by just one seat. So why didn't Singaporeans know about suck incident?

The PAP will also be less complacent if it meets with defeat. People will also start to dare to join the Opposition. The only reason why I do not wish for the Opposition to take over the government is because it is incompetent, and it is incompetent because talented men and women who are concerned about the aforementioned issues, do not have the courage or faith in the system to step forward and join the Opposition. But if the PAP faces a defeat that is significant enough, trust in the democratic system of Singapore will finally be restored and the politics of Singapore can be revived to more than just dead rhetoric.

Of course, PAP has done alot of good things for Singapore. It has been excellent especially in terms of Economic growth. But then, politics is not charity and we should not vote for whichever simply because it serves the people. If they lose focus, we should change. Not to let opposition take over, but to make them REGAIN focus again.
No one ever says “I have a good salary already, please donot give me a pay rise”. Everyone wants improvements to their lives, and if we care about this country, we should seek improvements to the way it is run as well, even if we are satisfied with this country to start with.
